FOMO and YOLO
They are real, and aren’t something that you can ignore — especially when it comes to following through and achieving your goals.
Everyone has this, everyone does this, and everyone’s brain has the exact same thoughts:
“I’ve been doing really really well lately. It’s okay to not work out this week and sleep in.”
“Everybody ELSE is eating the doughnut. I should be able to, also.”
“Even though I said I wasn’t going to shop this month, those shoes are on sale and they match what I already have in my closet, so if I don’t get them NOW, I’m going to have to pay more later. So really? This is a no-brainer and I should just get them because I will NEVER see this low of a price ever again.”
“What is *that*? A gobbledy-goop-thingamagjig-hoozy-whatsit? OH MY! what does THAT do? I’ve never even seen one before but now I, too, really, really really WANT IT!”
What does this mean?
It’s means this is a GOOD THING.
Knowing that EVERYBODY — even the uber most-successful person you know — has these thoughts is fantastic. It means that this is a doable and fixable problem.
You just need to plan for it.
“The difference between successful and unsuccessful people is that the successful person does what the unsuccessful will not.”
–Brian Tracy
The very first personal development book that I bought in 1999 was Rich Dad, Poor Dad.
the second that I *didn’t* buy, but kept checking out from the library over and over again on cassette tape (geesh! I’m old!) was Brian Tracy’s The 21 Success Secrets of Self-Made Millionaires.
(I have now bought the book, and have given copies to friends, coaching clients, and recent graduates)
This tiny book is pretty much summarized in the above quote.
And it’s a great motto for you to adopt and adapt to your own life if you find yourself veering off of the path that you have laid for yourself too often.
How does this work with FOMO and YOLO?
I’m so happy you asked! Image may be NSFW.

Since we know that *everybody’s* brain does this — you now know that there is NOTHING WRONG WITH YOU.
You are normal and amazing and lovely and fantastic and look phenomenal today! Is your hair slightly different? It suits you!

All you need to do, is plan for it.
Since I am ALL ABOUT SLOWING DOWN — this is all you need to do forever and ever, and then set it on repeat:
- When you are in a good mood. When you are calm, your thoughts are collected, and you feel at peace, write out your plan.
I strongly strongly recommend using a tool like my 30 Day Journal — but you can do this in a spiral notebook or google doc, too…
- Now plan out your GOOF OFF days. If you are trying to stick to a certain eating or workout plan, figure out what “on” looks like. Now give yourself permission to go “off” when you see fit. For my coaching clients who need to lose weight, I suggest every 7 to 10 days. If you have a lot of weight to lose, you can certainly do one free day a week. If you only have a little bit to lose, you’re probably going to have to tighten it up a bit and choose every 10 days — 3 times a month.
And that is it. Goofing off isn’t “self-sabotage” — it is human nature. That’s why every single teacher and parent I know right now has a countdown until summer vacation calendar right now —
Looking forward to a well-deserved vacation, doughnut, spa day, etc etc — that is GOOD FOR YOU!
Stop beating yourself up in your brain.
I like you. I think you’re fantastically wonderful, and I don’t allow my friends to be mean to themselves.

I hope this helped a bit!
–> I still have slots open for the next little bit for a free coaching call mindset upgrade — if you think you could use a tweak in the mindset department, schedule a call! I am not going to do these forever, and I’d really love to get to know you while we can!
