Hi there Slow Down Society!
Today I’d like to talk about Paving Your Own Path — and how to do so while also keeping those who have already walked before you.
It might sound like a contradiction, but when you have a great idea — look for evidence around you of other people who have done something similar, and then put your own spin on it.
That is what this week’s episode is about and in this interview there are SO. MANY. JUICY. nuggets of wisdom for you —
this is definitely something you’ll want to listen to, and then go back to take some notes.
I am so excited to have a longtime friend and personal mentor of mine on the podcast today.
Elise Bauer is an ex-tech executive and the founder of Simply Recipes. She started her business when she was at a low in her life, after recently being diagnosed with chronic fatigue. She ended up leaving her tech job in San Francisco, and moved back home with her parents, into her childhood bedroom.
She realized that she was on the leading edge of blogging and began a handful of blogs and then narrowed it down to one where she could focus her time. This is how the world’s number 1 food blog, Simply Recipes came to be.
Listen in as we compare notes on the early days of food blogging, how women should help women, and how to be a mentor — even if you aren’t aware that you are doing so!!
We talk about:
— the FIRE movement (financial independence, retire early)
— how writing for SEO (search engine optimization) works
— advancements in AI (artificial intelligence)
— the perfect way to hard boil eggs
— how Elise still has structure in her days, although she is fully retired
